Brown Pre-College and JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School Partnership

Active Program

Jackson Public Schools (JPS) and Tougaloo College established the JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School (J-TECHS) with the inaugural class beginning in August 2018. Students in the program complete Mississippi graduation requirements for high school while working on college coursework. Students may earn an associate's degree or up to two years of credits towards a bachelor's degree from Tougaloo College.

Each summer, Brown Pre-College offers college-level academic opportunities for high-achieving high school students, engaging them in intellectually and socially formative experiences in and out of the classroom with a diverse group of peers, instructors and staff. Brown’s commitment to independent thinking, critical engagement and personal and community responsibility is manifested in these academically rigorous programs, serving a wide range of students.

Since 2019, as a part of the Brown-Tougaloo Partnership, the JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School and the Division of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs at Brown have collaborated to ensure that students attending J-TECHS can apply to Brown Pre-College programs and, if admitted, participate with full financial support.

How to Apply

J-TECHS students interested in this program must be nominated by the high school. The Brown Pre-College application process opens in January and closes in May.
