Health Equity Scholars

Active Program

The Brown-Tougaloo partnership in Public Health program is nestled in our Health Equity Scholars (HES) program. HES is a scholarship and leadership development opportunity for select students entering the Master of Public Health program at Brown. The Brown MPH is rooted in the University's tradition of academic excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration, much like the field of public health itself. In recent years, deep disparities in health systems and outcomes have become apparent, and the Health Equity Scholars program reflects Brown’s commitment to addressing these inequities. The Health Equity Scholars program offers full tuition support, a paid research assistantship, and structured mentoring and coaching.

The Health Equity Scholars program aims to create an interconnected network of diverse and transformational leaders who will use their talents and training to bring equity and justice to their public health careers. The cohort is drawn from a pool of exceptional students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), and local communities in Rhode Island. Although they come from different institutions and backgrounds, the Scholars receive the same benefits. Students entering the HES program from all three pathways work and learn together, participating in leadership development workshops, coaching, program events, and other activities.
