Active Program
The Health Equity Scholars program is a scholarship and leadership development opportunity for select students entering the Master of Public Health Program at Brown University. The Health Equity Scholars program offers full tuition support, a partially paid research assistantship, and structured mentoring and coaching.
The Brown MPH is rooted in the University's tradition of academic excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration, much like the field of public health itself. In recent years, deep disparities in health systems and outcomes have become apparent, and the Health Equity Scholars program reflects Brown’s commitment to addressing these inequities. The program aims to create an interconnected network of diverse and transformational leaders who will use their talents and training to bring equity and justice to their public health careers.
The program’s cohort is drawn from a pool of exceptional students from historically Black colleges or universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs), local communities in Rhode Island, community college alumni and others committed to improving rural health. Although they come from different institutions and backgrounds, the scholars receive the same benefits. Students entering the Health Equity Scholars program from all five pathways work and learn together, participating in leadership development workshops, coaching and other events and activities.
