Faculty Summer Teaching Opportunities

Active Program

During the summer, Brown University’s Division of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs provides two academic offerings in which current Tougaloo College faculty members are invited to apply to teach: Pre-College for high school students and Summer Session for undergraduates.

For both teaching opportunities, Tougaloo faculty members are encouraged to inform Melissa McCoy by mid-August the year prior. Determination of courses offered in the summer occurs during the previous fall.

Brown University Pre-College

Each summer, more than 6,000 high school students enroll in non-credit pre-college courses offered on the Brown University campus in Providence, Rhode Island, online and at domestic and international locations. These young scholars engage in courses that run from one to six weeks in length and are offered at a first-year college level in more than 10 different programs. Pre-College students hail from every state and territory in the U.S. and more than 70 countries and are eager to learn and develop new skills that will support their future college success. On average, 10 Tougaloo College faculty members teach Pre-College every year. More information about these teaching opportunities can be found on the Pre-College instructors page.

Brown University Summer Session

Brown’s credit-bearing undergraduate Summer Session provides courses from a variety of disciplines over an intensive seven weeks. Students can extend their undergraduate studies into the summer, enrolling in one or two courses. Most Summer Session courses are taught online, using a blended model including asynchronous and synchronous components, and faculty members hold regular office hours. Aligned with processes at Brown, all courses and the faculty interested in teaching them are first reviewed by the sponsoring Brown academic department and then, when approved, through the College Curriculum Council before they are approved to be offered. Typically, one to three Tougaloo faculty members teach during the Summer Session each year. More information about these teaching opportunities can be found on the Summer Session website.
